Lucy becomes our first Starlight VIP!

Lucy Collett will be trekking the illuminated grounds of Boughton House with her cousin Coleen and her friend Lisa, this September at our very first Starlight Walk. Their experience will be even more memorable, as Lucy has become the very first participant to achieve VIP status by raising over £100 for Cransley Hospice Trust!  We spoke to Lucy about why she decided to sign up and her motivations to raise as much money as she could for the charity.

“Cransley Hospice is very important to me, having supported our family through my mum’s terminal illness in 2019, and I am always keen to join any events or fundraising I can to show appreciation for their care and to maintain an essential service to our community. Until a loved one needs a hospice, it is impossible to understate how important this caring support is.

“Cransley was a place of calm we could be together as a family, safe in the knowledge my mum was in the best hands possible.

“The care Cransley Hospice gave to our family was truly the only shining light of positivity throughout our whole experience. As a family we will be forever grateful and in their debt.

“Coleen and I also lost our cousin, Martine, in April 2021. We were a very close girl gang of three since we were small children. Martine was very young and had battled for 5 years with cervical cancer. She was treated by Cransley in her final weeks and we felt completing the walk and raising money for the hospice would be a fitting tribute to her – and she would be proud of us!”

Many of Lucy’s friends and family have also signed up to take part in the Starlight Walk, so she is excited that there will be a real party atmosphere on the night!

Lucy commented: “This event sounds like a fantastic experience everyone can get involved with. I’m looking forward to the lights, the cocktails and the disco!”

There will be even more to enjoy for Lucy, as a ‘Starlight VIP’ – as she will receive our fantastic UV pack, an extra glass of fizz and a delicious sweet treat to enjoy as we celebrate her fundraising success. By raising over £100 and becoming a ‘Starlight VIP’ Lucy has helped Cransley Hospice Trust to fund essential care for more families like her own in North Northamptonshire – but she also gets a fantastic reward for her efforts!

While £100 seems like an ambitious target, Lucy has very quickly been able to reach her goal with the support of her loved ones. She explained:

“My family have been touched deeply by Cransley so are always willing to donate to this amazing cause, so I have been very lucky to meet the VIP target so early on. Like everyone, I am a bit reluctant at the current time to ask for money from people, but I hope to do a final push for sponsorship before the event!”
