Compassion in Action: Bill’s Journey as a Volunteer

Bill Garcha has been volunteering for Cransley Hospice Trust for many years and has been instrumental in getting his colleagues from RS Group involved on many occasions.  You may even recognise Bill! He and his brilliant RS Group colleagues are known to make up a number of Christmas Tree Recycle collection teams.

Bills relationship with Cransley began when his Dad (Sohan) was cared for in 1999 due to a brain tumour diagnosis. Sohan had initially wanted to remain at the family home, but as his illness progressed, caring for him became a strain on Mrs Garcha [Naranjan] and the family, and so he moved into a residential care home.

Bill told us “It was all new to us, not something that any of us had known or been prepared for.“

After spending a few days in the hospice Dad was moved to a residential care home where he was cared for by the Cransley team”

“For our family the support was amazing, it was unexpected and something we hadn’t been aware of until we needed it. We felt cared for at such a critical time.”

“After Dad died the family got involved with the Cransley events – my brother and I ran the Cransley 10K at Cranford and helped out by volunteering at some of the other events, it was really rewarding.

“Then, when Mum passed away it was a similar situation and it reinforced our motivation to support Cransley.

“As a family with Sikh heritage we have always been involved in supporting the vulnerable and donating a proportion of our earnings to those in need.

“At RS components we get volunteering days that allows us to help organisations such as Cransley.

“I have always found I get a lot back from volunteering and would recommend anyone to give it a go, even just once.
