Once again the weather was kind for another year at the 11th Cransley Hospice Road Race held in Cranford on Sunday 18th September 2011
Race Report
Many new entrants were running this year for the first time and for their own special reason – as a personal challenge, in memory of a loved one or as part of a weight loss and fitness regime. A few runners, now with very familiar faces were running for the eleventh consecutive year, having entered every year since the outset of the event.
In addition, scores of marshals gave up their precious Sunday morning to ensure the safety along the route of the runners and provide them with welcome water stops. Hundreds of spectators cheered them along the way and welcomed them safely home. Bacon rolls, icecream, tea and cakes were available in the field and Village Hall, making the day a good family day out.
A comment posted at Runners World afterwards reads - I was impressed with every aspect of this race. The organisation was top notch, the marshalls and water points were numerous, and the support in the village was tremendous. And all this without sacrificing any of the ‘small local race’ feel which I love.
A most successful of days, enjoyed by many for the benefit of those who will be cared for by the highly specialized staff based at Cransley Hospice.
The organizers and all at Cransley Hospice would like to thank everyone who helped in the planning stages and on the day, all who entered and their generous sponsors. A special thanks to all the habitants of Cranford, Grafton Underwood and Brigstock for their support of the event and tolerance of the road closure. In addition, the endorsement and generosity of local businesses this year was exceptional and we thank them all wholeheartedly.
